This trip was not originally going to be a trip for my web site. Therefore, I did not collect GPS mile data. However, I did keep a journal and tracked my miles. Thus, I decided to put this trip on my web site. Marty had time off work and talked me into taking some days off to go on a trip with her. We first drove to Spokane, Washington, spend 2 nights there, and cycled part of the Centennial trail. Then we drove to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. We cycled there, it was cold. I also cycled the entire Coeur d'Alene trail with support from Marty. Then we spent a night in Moscow, Idaho and cycled around there.
See map of driven route below (Google estimate – not recorded with GPS):

We left my home in Portland around 10:00 AM and drove to Spokane, Washington. We found a Centennial Trail trailhead at People's Park Parking Lot (on West Clarke Ave) and parked there to cycle. I cycled from there to mile 29 of the Centennial trail and then back to the car. Marty only cycled slightly less that I cycled. After the ride we looked for a hotel, most of the hotels were full or too expensive. We finally found a Motel 6 that we did not really like, but it was OK. (Bike miles 12.4 miles)

We woke up, packed our stuff up, checked out of Motel 6 and then drove to Sontag Community Park. We started cycling from there, Marty was going slow so I went quicker and cycled to the military cemetery next to the Centennial trail (Mile 27 – 2 miles of overlap each way from previous day – Previous day I cycled from about mile 23 to 29). Then I cycled back to the car and Marty had cycled further, than I found her and we continued to the north end of the trail (to Nine Mile Falls Recreation Area – mile 39.2). Then we went to find a hotel for the night, we found a very nice/ new hotel and I cycled from there to the spot we started from the previous day (Trail to People's Park Parking Lot - about mile 25). Marty just cycled around the downtown Spokane area. Then I cycled back on the trail through Spokane and continued to mile 15 (15 miles to Idaho). Then I cycled back to the hotel and found Marty. We got fast food for dinner and ate at our hotel. (Bike miles 51.03 miles)

We woke up, packed the car, had our hotel-included breakfast, checked out of the hotel and drove to Coeur d’Alene. We first went to the visitor center and they told us about free parking. We parked free in a parking lot next to the city of Coeur d’Alene parks and recreation. Then we started cycling in wind and rain to highway 90/ Motel 6. Then back to town and reserved a room for 2 nights at Motel 6. Then I biked most of the way to Higgens point and then back to town. Marty was cold and wet, she decided to walking around the town of Coeur d’Alene as I cycled. I found Marty after my ride and she got me a mocha coffee. I was cold and wet; it was very nice to have the hot coffee. Then we drove to Higgens point and hiked to the picnic table on the hill. Next, we went to motel 6 and then I cycled to the trail we had been that morning. Then I cycled from there to the end of a trail Northwest from there (I think the trail was Prairie Trail Trailhead @ N Huetter Rd). Then I cycled to WinCo and bought food. Then we microwaved the food from WinCo to eat at the hotel for dinner. We watched TV and went to sleep after 10:00 PM. (Bike miles 40.85 miles)

We woke up around 8:00 AM, drove to Plummer and had to ask for help finding the end of the Coeur d’Alene trail. It was a very windy and cold day (32 F with 25 MPH to 50 MPH winds). Then we cycled downhill for about 5 miles to Lake Coeur d’Alene and cycled over the bridge that crosses the lake. Then Marty cycled back to the car. I continued cycling to Medimont. When I was slightly passed Harrison near the site of old mining town (Springston) I saw what looked like a horse on the trail, it turned out to be a moose. Marty was driving my car to Medimont, so she did not see the moose. The moose was on the trail and started walking towards me. It made me nervous and did not leave when I first yelled at it. The moose finally took off into the woods and I was able to continue on the trail. When I got to Medimont it was just a remote parking spot, I thought Marty would have trouble finding me, I was not sure I told her to meet me at the trailhead. I cycled on the road looking for her. I was not sure which direction to go, but I luckily quickly found Marty driving on the road looking for the trailhead. Then I continued to Lane trailhead, Marty drove my car and met me there. Then we decided I could continue to Bull Run Lake, so I cycled there. Marty drove to Bull Run Lake to meet me. My ride was a great birding route. Then we loaded my bike on my car, drove to Kellogg and had lunch at a brewpub. Then we drove to Wallace and walked around. Then we drove back to Coeur d’Alene and went to WinCo to get stuff for dinner. Then we went to our room at the Motel 6, microwaved the food we got at Winco, ate dinner and watched TV. (Bike miles 35.29 miles)

We woke up around 7:15 AM, packed the car, ate at McDonalds and then drove to Bull Run Lake where I started cycling towards Mullen. It was a great ride with lots of birds prior to Highway 90. Then the ride got too close to the highway. I made it to Silver Mountain ski area and texted Marty to tell her I was there. She texted me back to say she was at Mullen. I continued and Marty sent me another text message saying too much snow in Mullen and she was heading back to Wallace. Her message said she would provide me with a new meeting spot. I could not get cell phone service to reply and continued passed Wallace. I finally got service and Marty had texted me that she was at Wallace. I texted her to tell her I was close to the end of the trail and would return to Wallace. There was a lot of snow on the trail when I got about three miles before Mullen. I did continue and made it to Mullen. Only had to walk the bike a small amount, most of the snow was in stretches with stretches of no snow. I made it most of the way back to Wallace and found Marty cycling towards me. We cycled back to Wallace and checked out the Silver Historic site (Silver History Site - 10 River St, Wallace, ID 83873). There was lot of cool mining equipment exhibits in the park near the visitor center. Then we drove to Cracker Barrel in Coeur d’Alene for dinner. While eating I struggled to reserve a room in Moscow. Then we finished eating at Cracker Barrel, drove to Moscow, we found our room, got groceries and then went back to the hotel to eat. (Bike miles 47.67 miles)

We woke up around 7:30 AM, packed up the car, went to McDonalds for breakfast, found the Latah trailhead near the cemetery and started cycling by 10:00 AM. We had head winds and Marty cycled 5 miles east before turning back. I cycled 7 miles before turning back (I think I turned back at 1894-1886 Wallen Rd, Troy, ID 83871). I cycle to a little past mile 4 to go to east end of the trail (~3.5 miles to the end of the trail). It was a boring trail through farm field next to the highway. Once we were both back at my car, we cycled to the university area. Then we continued west on streets, then we went back to the University area and found bike Trails to ride on. We cycled the Bill Chipman Palouse Trail to mile marker 6, this was about .3 miles into Washington State. Then we cycled back to my car. Then we started the long drive back to Portland. We got back to Portland around 8:00 PM and drove by my Hillsboro rental house. I have a lot to think about what to do when I retire with respect to my rental property. Move back in or sell it. After a lot of thought, I decided to keep it rented and stay in Portland for at least a year after retiring. (Bike miles 27.55 miles)
